Enlarged photos, information panels and original fishing tackle recall scenes in Monnickendam from olden times. Museum De Speeltoren has a separate exhibition on the history of its fish smoking. And in what used to be the fish market you can now discover, through image and sound, a fish’s journey from early morning unloading, smoking and finally to being sold.

Visitors can watch demonstrations of old crafts such as making fishing nets and baskets, then try these out for themselves.

Sailing boats lie moored at the ready for a short trip across the water. To complete the experience there are actors to perform typical feast-day activities of the times.
